The tip: spend ten minutes this week getting your console ready, so GTA 6 is fully downloaded before it unlocks.
What's confirmed
- Digital pre-orders can start pre-loading on November 12, 2026, a week before launch. The PlayStation Store lists it as a "7-Day Pre-load."
- The boxed version also goes on sale November 12. It holds a download code, not a disc, so you'll download it either way.
- Rockstar hasn't announced the download size. Ignore any "official" number you see on social media until Rockstar or the console stores show one.
Do this now
- Delete a couple of games you're not playing (you can re-download them later) to free up a big chunk of space.
- Turn on automatic downloads / updates in your console settings and leave the console in rest mode (PS5) or with instant-on/sleep enabled (Xbox) overnight on November 12.
- Check your pre-order shows up in your game library.
Bonus: set a GTA+ reminder
Digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+. On PlayStation it continues at the regular monthly price until you cancel, and it must be claimed by March 31, 2027. If you don't want to keep it, put a calendar reminder a few days before the month ends.
